More Card Alters

Series one is moving right along. I got through four more cards since my last post. Our guest John Reimann is also a painter of hobby-related crap. So it feels even more on point to share progress instead of more Babylon 5 talk. I’ll let this week’s minisode do the talking there.

Painting Progress

Progress Report Four in a week. So many colors!

This week, I took on two of the more involved designs and two simpler ones. All four had something new I was trying to do with some of my existing stained glass styles.

First was the Black and Blue Power Rangers. I wanted to do something similar to the stained glass alters where I put the subject in a showcase border, but have them exploding out of it. So Powerful and Ranger-like! To rub in some 90’s gloss, I took the purple-green blotches from the Vanilla Ice card background and added them behind the bottom logo. I also took the five power ranger balls and put symmetric swoops on them like a basketball.

Is Lennier a recruit yet? Delann think sexy! Go Go 90s Rangers!

Next I went for two of the basketball players. These were much more straight-forward. I really liked the original Isiah Thomas background, but wanted to do something with his pose reaching up to the sky. The simple borderless sun worked well here.

The new sun god Get that sun!

John Salley looks so determined here, I wanted to use the same colors and sharp angles as on the Talia alter. Just to draw all focus moving to the right. I should have given the pencils another shot as this doesn’t get to what I wanted. But I know what to do next time.

Travelling... across a sunbeam Attack Right!

Last week, I had to get in Gorilla Grodd. I went with a double brick pattern border and a leafy green motif around the edge. Not sure about the purple choice here, and I still have to go back and add berries to those patches. It’s all freehand and those bricks should probably be less wobbly…but I like what I did here and will use this style again at some point.

In the mighty jungle Gorilla in the wild, ready to take your calls!
