YGCTO Episode 17 - Moments of Transition
Lyta Takes Another One For The Team
Poor Lyta. Not only is she unemployed and getting evicted after giving so much to the alliance - but I just re-watched the middle of Season 5. Oh boy. Not only does she keep getting shit on after playing a major role in the war, but JMS has her taking over a plot for Ivonava where she has to fall in love with Byron. I’m really surprised she never went all Jean Grey on these un-thankful freaks.
This Week’s Guest
John Reimann is the co-host of the Screamplay and Wrestlemovie podcasts on the Gamefully Unemployed network.
John Reimann - Down to Clown
John and I got to share some of our miniature paintings while Dre was off in technical difficulty. It’s both great and disappointing to have a good talk with someone on a podcast recording but not be able to release it due to the visual nature of painting. We have loose plans for the third season that may allow for a painting-related topic. Maybe we’ll end up doing a one-off video-minisode to showcase some violent warhammer paint jobs. Joy
Painting Progress
I’m debating whether to keep all the alter articles seprate for now or include them in my weekly drops. For the current alter project, I’m going to include a progress report with each article. Mostly because I’m running between a lot of things these days and need to double-up on efforts where I can.
I’m still working on the Slatronica Premier Alter Series I: Random Jabronis* alters. Last week, I had the initial cards selected and masked. This week, I added the pencil sketches for each alter. THe toughest part is coming up with an idea for each card. Like any creative start, it doesn’t have to be something great, just any idea that can get me started and guide what I’m sketching.
It's like my very own paint-by-numbers set
I’ll go into more detail on each one as I finish them. This week I got through Bill Laimbeer and Vanilla Ice. I should be able to do 3 per week at this rate, given that I did all the sketches plus these two.
For Bill, I went with a classic stained glass design. I see him reeling in a sun, so I did a similar sketch to what I did for the Gheist-Honored Monk on the alters page. Once I put that first circle around the end of the pole, the rest goes from there.
Bill Laimbeer, doing what he really loves. Harnessing the raw power of the sun to catch some bass.
I took on a new approach to the Vanilla Ice card. I liked the pure 90’s inspired design on the top and bottom of the card, so I strayed away from the pure stained glass approach and tried a bubble color pattern. I like how it came out. I started out thinking that it would be done in a stained glass style… but after adding the veins from each color, it really wanted to stand on its own.
I’d love to work deeper in this style. Mostly because I don’t like how I cut so hard over to green in the middle. Seems like this would look awesome if I could blend the color areas into each other more. For example, having the red vines be thicker at the part where it currently becomes green. Having the green vines curl up as the red ones are coming down could be really sweet. I’ll remember that one for the next series.
Vanilla is about to get eaten by pure style
One more round of cleaning up the lines on these and we’re set. For next I’ll be working on that Power Ranger and Isiah Thomas from the series.

Mike’s Image Picks
Mimbari Religious caste is getting bombarded hard by the warrior caste, inconveniencing Sheridan’s booty call.
This is how Mimbari flip the bird
Lyta sinks low to start the episode… oh how far she will fall.
The things we say in job interviews
This is the dude that will let all his people die to boost his ego. Sound familiar?
Shakira let herself go
Garibaldi thinks he’s owed something from Haircut.
For what?
Bester is the skeeviest skeev to skeev on Lyta. And she eventually dates Byron! Our cold open is riffing on this scene and it still felt so wrong.
The most awkward scene from all of Babylon 5
And now for an intergalactic game of chicken. Which as we all know is the customary way of selecting a leader on Mimbari - which as you know is our planet.
It’s actually a much better way of selecting leaders than how we do it in the US today.
What Did We Learn?
Sheridan will not let bombardments prevent him getting some
